Are you having problems with your garage? Is finding something in your garage a big headache for you? If so, I like to offer a few suggestions to you so that you will be well on your way to garage storage organizational heaven.
The first and foremost rule about garage organization is divide and conquer. What do I mean by that? For the garage this means dividing your clutter up into its own separate categories. Some of these categories might be tools, gardening equipment, sports equipment, automobile maintenance items and other categories like that. If you think about your garage in those terms, organizing it becomes a much easier task.
Another approach is to separate your garage items up in two seasons. As you know your needs for winter goods are very different than what we need for the summer. When the season changes you will find yourself getting out the ladder, climbing up to the overhead garage storage racks, and trading things for the next season. You can find space in which to rotate your items throughout the four seasons.
Try to have a clear inventory of what's exactly in there. A lot of times clutter accumulates over several months or years. Before you know it you garage is a mess. If you are very ambitious, try to create a map of the garage on graph paper. You can then map out different areas of your garage for different things. This garage organizational method works very well. It also helps you not to forget where to put certain things. If one part of your garage storage racks gets full all you have to do is change your graph paper around to find new home for it.
Give your best effort not to have any loose items around your garage area. Try to have a container for every type of stuff you can possibly encounter in your garage. Keep in mind that your goal is to eventually have a perfectly organized garage. And start by having a particular container what type of containers for a particular type of items is a wonderful way to begin this process. Labeling these boxes on top of your overhead garage storage racks is also vitally important. This way you know what is in the box without bringing it down. Try to have the labels on the side of the box instead of the top. This helps you visually see the box better from any vantage point in your garage.
